چکیده

The contribution of this paper is a framework for relating butterfly-shaped hysteresis maps to simple (single-loop) hysteresis maps, which are typically easier to model and more amenable to control design. In particular, a unimodal mapping is used to transform simple loops to butterfly loops. For the practically important class of piecewise monotone hysteresis maps, we provide conditions for producing butterflyshaped maps and examine the properties of the resulting butterflies. Conversely, we present conditions under which butterfly-shaped maps can be converted to simple piecewise monotone hysteresis maps to facilitate hysteresis compensation and control design. Examples of a preloaded two-bar linkage mechanism and a magnetostrictive actuator illustrate the theory and its utility for understanding, modeling, and controlling systems with butterfly-shaped hysteresis. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. Dynamic Performance Analysis of Hysteresis Motors by a Linear Time-Varying Model

Hysteresis motors are self starting brushless synchronous motors which are being used widely due to their interesting features. Accurate modeling of the motors is crucial to successful investigating the dynamic performance of them. The hysteresis loops of the material used in the rotor and their influences on the parameters of the equivalent circuit are necessary to be taken into considerat...

Users have conflicting sets of requirements when it comes to choosing Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) for mobile phones or other systems that use PINs for authentication: the conflict lies between the ‘easy to remember’ usability requirement and the ‘hard to guess’ security requirement. Users often ignore the security requirement and choose PINs that are easy to remember and reuse, makin...

The neurocognitive structure of the acting self has recently been widely studied, yet is still perplexing and remains an often confounded issue in cognitive neuroscience, psychopathology and philosophy. We provide a new systematic account of two of its main features, the sense of agency and the sense of ownership, demonstrating that although both features appear as phenomenally uniform, they ea...

Author's personal copy Butterfly responses to prairie restoration through fire and grazing

The development of land for modern agriculture has resulted in losses of native prairie habitat. The small, isolated patches of prairie habitat that remain are threatened by fire suppression, overgrazing, and invasion by non-native species. We evaluated the effects of three restoration practices (grazing only, burning only, and burning and grazing) on the vegetation characteristics and butterfl...
